You are absolutely right! Trying to wade through the plethora of information and articles is absolutely overwhelming. And because there are so many varieties of dementia, including Alzheimer's, everyone's experience is not the same. So the neighbor who went through this with his or her family member may not be your best resource when it comes to figuring out what's right for you and your family. We suggest finding a "quarterback" for your family. This should be someone who can help keep their eyes on things as they develop and point you in the right direction toward local resources. Your "quarterback" should also be able to help you understand and devise a plan to approach things from a legal, financial, emotional and health resource standpoint. And even though this person may not help formulate the details for all of those areas, they should be able to assist you in finding the local resources that can do that for you. Your quarterback might be an Aging Life Care Planner, an Elder Care Attorney with experience in comprehensive plans for those affected by Alzheimer's & dementia, or a local Aging or Dementia advocate.
