About Janis Carney
I am the owner and lead attorney for the law firm of Carney Elder Law located in Saratoga, California in the heart of the Silicon Valley. My firm specializes Estate and Long-term Care Planning and Trust & Estate Administration. In additional to providing all of the legal work for our clients (preparing legal documents and handling court matters), we also help clients with the financial and care aspects of elder care planning, including helping them to protect their families by preserving the family assets in the event of long-term care. We are specialists in Medicare, Medi-Cal and Veterans Administration (VA) benefits and can help clients to understand, access and attain the care they need and deserve whether it is at-home, in a hospital or a nursing facility.
I became a certified specialist by the State Bar Association of California Board of Legal Specialization in Estates, Trusts, and Probate Law in 1995 and in 2005 became the first certified elder law attorney (CELA) in Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley) by the National Elder Law Foundation. Then, in 2009, I became one of the first attorneys in Silicon Valley to be accredited to represent veterans and the surviving spouses of veterans with the Department of Veteran Affairs of the United States (VA). I regularly speak at seminars and to community groups on the issues of aging, estate planning and long-term care planning. My most recent seminar, entitled “Understanding California’s new End-of-Life Option Act and its effect on Estate Planning and Long-term Care Planning” has been highly applauded by large audiences throughout the area.
My goal is to make Carney Elder Law the premier provider of the legal and financial help seniors and their family need in this area when planning for and administering their estates and protecting their assets for their future and their family.
